The shaped foam is then coated with a high strength fine plaster. After 24 hours drying time the plaster may be sanded to a final shape and any adjustments made.


A guide coat is added before a second plaster coat. Fine sanding using 80 grit follows, then a second guide coat, more plaster filling of surface pits and sanding using 120 grit at which point the model can be sealed in readiness for Step 5: adding detail mouldings, the tail fin and priming.

Steps 1.  Mark out your plywood and cut formers

Step 2.  Assemble plywood formers 

Step 3. Fill formers with foam and shape

Step 4. Coat foam plug with plaster

Step 5. Sand, add detail mouldings and prime

Step 6. Paint finished model
