EV20

BILL MOORE, the editor of EV WORLD was overwhelmed by the annual EVS 20 (Electric Vehicle symposium)

The people and the technology that will someday propel the world. Reports we are actually making real progress in the battery arena. With half-dozen companies displaying advanced batteries: lead acid to nickel zinc to lithium ion. While the cost of watts per gram is still high, it is coming close to US ABC and DOE goals.

In addition some very interesting new motor technology was on show which claimed to improve efficiency: Raser Technologies, of Provo, Utah, brought a Polaris snowmobile that they had converted from a polluting two-stroke to a gasoline-electric four-stroke hybrid, reducing its emissions while significantly increasing its horsepower. This utilises a new electric motor they say takes advantage of a little-known principle of physics.

Wavecrest Lab's powerful and quiet M 750 electric bike was on show to prove how far battery electric technology has come in the last decade.
