London to Brighton Sports and Kit Car Run

This is an increasingly popular event with an increasing number of classic car owners joining in the fun each year since 2001.  It's a chance to meet other like minded motoring enthusiasts and enjoy a trip in the Sussex countryside.  This run is for Kit, Replica and Sports cars of all types.

THE FIRST LONDON - BRIGHTON KIT CAR RUN attracted over 200 kit, replica and sports cars from across the UK and is now an established highlight of the kit car calendar.  The run is a touring assembly organised by Greenwood Exhibitions, who have run the London to Brighton Classic Car Run featured elsewhere on this site for the past 17 years.

It is a professionally run event that has a new start point of Hampton Court Palace Gardens and provides a memorable day out for all kit, replica and sports car owners who enjoy driving their cars, plus a chance to take part in one of the most impressive displays of cars in the unique setting of the famous Madeira Drive on the seafront at Brighton, a photograph of which gives some idea of the atmosphere.

The Start

Hampton Court Palace is the start point.  Easily reached from the M3 & M25, Hampton Court Palace has been at the centre of English History for the past 700 years.  Cars gather at the imposing East front at their appointed time and leave every 20 seconds after being ceremoniously sent off with a wave of a Union Jack.  Entrants could spend Saturday at Hampton Court, soaking up the unique atmosphere of one of the worlds great palaces and set off fresh on Sunday morning.

The Route

A new route is devised every year giving entrants the chance to discover the beautiful villages and unfamiliar picturesque country roads in this delightful area of Southern England.

Stopping Point

A stopping point is provided en route, at Groombridge Place Gardens & Enchanted Forest giving the opportunity for a relaxing break before the final stage to Brighton, or a leisurely picnic lunch with new found friends. Groombridge offers something for everyone. Surrounded by acres of breathtaking parkland, it has a history dating back to the 13th century. Flanked by a medieval moat, the beautiful formal gardens with extensive herbaceous borders were voted “Best garden attraction” in 2003. High above the walled garden and estate vineyard, hidden from view lies the enchanted forest, where magic and fantasy await discovery.  Stroll around the formal gardens, visit the dazzling Oriental Garden, or tackle the maze and relax in the Garden Room, offering a wide range of meals and snacks. Entry to Groombridge is free for the driver and navigator.

The Finish

Arriving in Brighton from midday onwards the participating cars make a spectacular display on the picturesque seafront road Madeira Drive, which is closed to non- event traffic for the day.  They are joined on Madeira Drive by the Classic Car Run who have reached Brighton by their own different route.  Traders set up their stands underneath the arches and a top motoring journalist provides an entertaining & informative commentary for the participants & around 20,000 spectators.
